Withersfeield 7 Newmarket A 2
A guarded Withersfield tackled the in
form Newmarket on the back of their 4-2dismissal
of West Wratting in the Tesco cup. The wind and
slope directed the opening play as Withersfield,
although losing the toss, surprisingly were
given the advantage.
The football flowed slickly from back to front
with Joe Baker seizing the loose ball from a
corner to fire home from 6 yards. A second
followed in quick succession with Sam Demartino
but the goal of the half was left to Nathan
Banks to go 3 up. A series of pass and move,
fine delivery from Oliver Fish saw Banks slide
it past a dejected Newmarket keeper.
More of the same followed from the away side
with some great link up play left Baker with
another to his name. His different but welcoming
hold up play was key to the rampant
Withersfields domination. Henley Kennedy bought
the end to the half seeing his free kick from 25
yards zip off the wet surface tricking the
keeper and into the net to go 5 up at the break.
It was Newmarket that started the brighter in
the second half with Withersfield going to sleep
at the back and gifting a goal against. The
momentum looked to be slipping away but for that
of Demartino with the goal of game; several
passes later left Sammy with an easy tap-in
completing his hat-trick to leave Newmarket with
just too much to do. Newmarket showed Great
Spirit however, rewarded with a second. This
fine performance gets Withersfield back on track
to end a rare but poor run of form. A real team
win with Machai Toloisi and Baker easing ahead
of their team mates with outstanding displays.

season was to top of the table
Arbury.Withersfield started game well and were
looking to put in a good performance with the
advantage of playing at home,Withersfield took
early command of the game going 2 goals up
within 5 minutes, the second coming from Will
Gardner with an unstoppable rocket shot into the
goal, this inspired the Arbury boys into a come
back scoring 3 goals and entering the break
3-2up. There was a commanding display of
football from team captain Josh Huhes, and Olly
Stevenson showing some silky footwork
skills. There was a late appearance from the
pacey Alex Horscroft putting in his usual gritty
performance to shaw up the defence.Withersfield
started this game well and though playing some
good football in patches could not make an
impression on the game enough to get anything
out of the game against a physicaly impossing
Arbury side.
11/10/09 Chatteris 3 Withersfield
Youth 2
Withersfield,frustrated by their
seasons erratic form took on newly promoted
Chatteris
in their third away game in a row,the Chatteris
boys were up for this game and were a stern test
with a Chatteris player seemingly getting onto
every loose ball.Withersfield briefly held the
lead but were pegged back with a blast on target
that not even the safe hands of goaly Roy Jebb
could keep out.Withersfield tried to bring last
weeks good performance to this game but were
left wanting with little in the way of
organisation and many of the boys not keeping in
their position. The second half had Withersfield
trying to keep the ball low in the blustery
conditions and at2-2 with the game finely
balanced went all out for the winning goal only
to be caught on the break with a 3rd and final
winning goal for Chatteris,after todays
disappointing result the boys will be focused on
next weeks first league home game to get their
stuttering season back on track.
04/10/09 Withersfield Youth 8 Saffron Walden
0
Withersfield took on Saffron Walden in the
first round of the League cup, looking to avenge
the seasons opening game defeat to Walden. The
opening of the match saw some good exchanges of
attacking football by Withersfield, with the
scoring opened by Sam Demartino, netting from a
long ranging solo run by Oliver fish.
Henley Kennedy put Withersfield 2up with a 20
yard shot going over the goalie and into the top
corner. The second half saw the majority of the
game played in the Walden half with Withersfield
wearing down the opposition with some great one
touch football resulting in 6 further goals.
There were stand out performances from Oliver
Stevenson, Joe Baker, Nathan Banks and in
particular Mitchel Burr, who though not scoring
today was a constant threat to the Walden
defence. The score was 8-0 at the final whistle
with all the boys raising their game and playing
their part in this home win and progressing to
the next round

fish shot.Mitchel Burr quickly added a second
for Withersfield. Some good team play saw the
away side 5up at the break. The second half had

more goals with liam Santry scoring 4 goals and
bringing his own cartwheel celebration to the
pitch. Will Gardner and Mitchel Burr linked up

06/09/09 - Withersfield V Saffron Walden Town
League Champions Withersfield crossed the Essex
border to take on newly promoted Saffron Walden
in this opening match of the season.
Withersfield found themselves under some early
pressure from a good Saffron Walden side, with
the away goal coming under relentless pressure
from the Walden strikers. Walden broke the
Withersfield defence after 11 minutes to put the
home side 1up, but Withersfield quickly
responded with a fine goal from Joe Baker
netting from a trademark Henley Kennedy cross.
A stern halftime team talk from manager John
Kennedy could do little to shake off the early
season below parr performance with Walden adding
2 more goals in the early stages of the second
half.Saffron Walden always looked dangerous in
poccession and could turn out to be the suprise
team of the season stopping Withersfield playing
their usual fluent passing game,Baker added a
late consolation goal but the home side come out
with a well deserved 5-2 victory |
